Most commercial aircraft incorporate High Efficiency Particulate (HEPA) filters. HEPA filters must capture a minumum of 99.97% of contaminants such as viruses, bacteria, pollen, dust & aerosolized mist. These filters do not capture chemical compounds such as tricresyl phosphate (TCP). It is only possible to identify TCP and other chemical irritants on a HEPA filter if the irritants are in liquid of droplet form. In addition, HEPA filters are ineffective at capturing gas phase chemical irritants and odors. Removal of these contaminants has been found to be more effective at increasing passenger and flight crew comfort than increasing humidity. Learn More about HEPA >>
