DONALDSON H130T2 INLET BARRIER FILTERS EARN ANAC CERTIFICATION
NASHVILLE, TN — October 19, 2015 — Donaldson Aerospace & Defense’s Inlet Barrier Filters (IBFs) are helping operators of more than 275 Airbus Helicopters H130 and H125B3/B3e dual hydraulic aircraft protect their engines — and now, new certification from the Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC) has cleared the way for H130T2 operators in Brazil to realize the same benefits.
Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a business unit within Donaldson Company, Inc. (NYSE: DCI), will be displaying IBF systems for the H130T2 and the Bell Helicopter 407 in Booth 535 at the 2015 Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) in Long Beach, California, Oct. 19-21.
One of many satisfied H130 customers is John Butera, Chief Executive Officer of Hospital Wing. Butera’s organization operates five helicopters with Donaldson IBF protection. According to Butera, “Hospital Wing decided to install the Donaldson IBF on our first EC130B4 that we placed in service in 2013. We were searching for a solution that would help us get closer to reaching engine time between overhaul (TBO) limits and to reduce foreign object damage (FOD) and environmentally induced erosion issues causing aircraft down time and escalated maintenance costs.” Butera said Hospital Wing’s experience has been “only positive,” adding, “you can see the difference that the filtration provides with the naked eye. Our filtered engines are noticeably cleaner on the inside with virtually no erosion and FOD damage.”

Design of the EC130T2 IBF features a sealed intake plenum that replaces inlet screens or less effective sand filter/particle separators and utilizes the existing cowl with minimal modification, including incorporation of an aft-facing bypass system. The filter and bypass system are flush with the upper surface of the cowling, utilizing an internal bypass plenum. Emergency bypass capability is an important Donaldson IBF feature that is lacking in most traditional sand filters and particle separators.
All electrical components are easily accessed from inside the cowling with minimal effort. A simple compact cockpit switch, common with existing Donaldson IBF systems, allows indication and activation of the bypass system. As with all Donaldson certified IBFs, an integral Filter Maintenance Aid allows for on-condition inspections between established service intervals, eliminating unnecessary filter servicing. The flat filter design also allows for quick removal and easy service.
