DONALDSON EXHIBITS CUTTING-EDGE ENGINE PROTECTION FOR EUROPEAN HELICOPTER OPERATORS DURING HELITCH 2013

ST LOUIS, MO., September 19, 2013 – Donaldson Aerospace and Defense, a division of Donaldson Company, Inc. (DCI) is exhibiting the company’s Inlet Barrier Filters (IBFs) at Helitech 2013 in London, 24-26 September, Stand L41. IBFs protect valuable aircraft engine components via an innovative inlet protection technology while allowing maximum aircraft performance, and lower engine maintenance expense and program operating costs.

Certified with no restrictions, Donaldson IBFs allow year-round operations, providing operators confidence that their engine is fully protected during flight in changing weather conditions. Whether flying in snow conditions in the Alps, hot/high summer weather in the Pyrenees or calm coastal skies in the Cote d’Azure, operators equipped with the Donaldson IBF can carry out their mission effectively.

The Donaldson AS350 system features a sealed intake plenum that replaces the inlet screens, sand filter/particle separator or alternate barrier filter. Design allows easy installation, and an inlet bypass system is standard on each model. An intake bypass capability is an important IBF feature that is lacking in most traditional sand filters and particle separators.

EASA certification of the Donaldson IBF for the Eurocopter AS350B3e and other AS350 series aircraft allows European operators access to this proven system. Inlet Barrier Filter systems are already in use by AS350 and EC130 operators worldwide performing law enforcement, air medical, firefighting, news gathering, and utility missions.

Operators recently implementing Donaldson AS350 IBFs include Sweden’s Scandair, Laroyflyg and Walthers Flygservice, as well as Nord Helikopters Norway. Helitrans Pyrenees in Spain has also chosen the IBF for their new AS350B3e. Longtime operators include Specialist Aviation Services in the UK (MD902 IBFs); Hahn Helicopters in Germany (AS350 and MD500 barrier filter systems); and CDC Helicopters and Heli-Swiss.

“Customers from Germany to Nepal and South Africa to Australia are choosing the Donaldson AFS inlet protection solution,” said Business Development Director Robert Stenberg. “Improvements in performance and reduced direct operating costs can be obtained by utilizing the AS350 IBF as compared with alternative inlet protection. The same experience is available throughout our family of IBF products.”

Several IBFs for additional models await EASA approvals including the Eurocopter EC130 B4 and AS350B3 helicopters with dual hydraulic systems as well as the AgustaWestland AW139. Donaldson offers certified IBFs for operators worldwide flying aircraft from AgustaWestland, Eurocopter, Bell, and MD Helicopters. Global approvals are also in process in Japan, South America and other regions.
